Dacha at Marshall Lake Getting an Upgrade!
The beloved dacha (pronounced "dat-tcha" - it's Russian for cottage) at Marshall Lake is getting some love. It was built as a millennial project in 2000 - find out more at https://phoenixnordic.com/the-dacha/. After more than 20 years, the old wood shavings floor and tar-paper walls were attracting wild animals, so both are gone. A new concrete floor (left) has been installed, the door is being put back on, and the woodstove is now back in place.
Thanks to our Trail Manager, funded by the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary for the GFCTS, Phoenix Nordic Ski Club, and the Kettle River Cycling Association, for spearheading this project!

Rathmullen Culvert Replacement Project Paused for Winter
Provincial funding is in place to replace the culvert on the Trans Canada Trail just south of Eholt, toward Grand Forks. The trail was temporarily closed, but the contractors weren’t quite done before winter weather set in.
During the work pause, the trail has been re-opened to through travel, with protective measures in place. Please pay attention to signage and the built-up approaches which protect travellers from the gully. Snowmobilers are especially cautioned to slow down, follow the signage and built approaches, and watch for cross ditches.
